Papers of Robert J. Flick, 1983-2006

 Collection
Identifier: 2008.018

Scope and Contents

This collection includes campaign material, office material and handouts, campaign material of others, events, legislative work, committee work, Pennsylvania House of Representative Republican Caucus reports and publications and government and university publications. Most of the reports issued by both the Republican Caucus and government and universities deal with public education, welfare reform or workforce development thus providing a researcher interested in these topics with an outstanding resource. In addition, to the reports, Mr. Flick’s own work, both legislatively and via committees on these topics are included.

The files on the Select Committee on Information Security pursuant to House Resolution 351 of 2005-2006 is a particularly complete set of files providing a glimpse into the process of the select committee’s workings.

Also included in this collection is an account of Mr. Flick’s participation in the recovery of the body of one of his constituents from a lake in New York. Mr. Flick described this effort at that moment, “as the most important and significant effort of [his] life,” (In Loving Memory of Nathan Oliver Swymer, Box 1, Folder 12). While this may be an extreme example of the efforts made by Members for their constituents, their care may be seen throughout Mr. Flick’s collection as well as many others in the Pennsylvania House of Representatives Archives.

Researchers interested in Mr. Flick or the topics in which he was involved, especially education, welfare reform and job training should examine his Oral History Interview which was conducted on April 18, 2007 for his personal perspectives on his experiences.
