Scope and Contents

The Children and Youth Committee of the 2009-2010 Session was chaired by Democrat Louise Bishop. She, with fellow Democrats Steve Samuelson (Vice Chair) and Patrick Harkins (Secretary) ran the committee with Republicans Dennis O'Brien (Minority Chair), Dan Moul (Minority Vice Chair), and Jim Cox (Minority Secretary). This committee held many public hearings involving topics such as Fostercare, Violence in Videogames, Breastfeeding in Public Rights, Illegal Drugs and Alcohol, Childhood Obesity, Delinquency, and Juvenile Justice.

The collection is made up of four series: 1. Committee Record; 2. Meetings, Tours, and Public Hearings; 3. House Blue Backs; and 4. Information Sessions regarding Delinquency Prevention.

Method of Acquisition

Pursuant to House Rule 45 of the Pennsylvania House of Representatives (titled “Powers and Duties of Standing Committees and Subcommittees”) governing the management and disposition of historically valuable committee material, the secretary of the committee must record the attendance of Members and any votes taken, the minutes of the meeting and records, bills, and other papers in the possession of committees and subcommittees which must be submitted to the Chief Clerk at the end of every two year legislative session for permanent archival storage.
