Scope and Contents
This collection contains the records of the Business and Commerce Committee (now called the Commerce Committee) for the 1981-1982 session, the Republicans in the majority. According to the Pennsylvania Manual the Chair of the Committee was L. Eugene Smith (R), the Subcommittee Chairman on Banking and Saving and Loan Associations was Joseph V. Grieco (R), the Subcommittee Chairman on Housing was James M. Burd (R), and the Subcommittee Chairman on Industrial Development, Recreation and Tourism was Terrance F. McVerry (R). Daniel R. Fleck (R) served as Secretary.
Some topics discussed by this committee were Three Mile Island, School Subsidies, and Small Businesses.

Method of Acquisition
Pursuant to House Rule 45 of the Pennsylvania House of Representatives (titled “Powers and Duties of Standing Committees and Subcommittees”) governing the management and disposition of historically valuable committee material, the secretary of the committee must record the attendance of Members and any votes taken, the minutes of the meeting and records, bills, and other papers in the possession of committees and subcommittees which must be submitted to the Chief Clerk at the end of every two year legislative session for permanent archival storage.
